BVAS Conservation Strategies

To accomplish our conservation mission, BVAS may utilize some or all of the following strategies:

  1. Engage at the local level on land use planning issues.
    1. Review, analyze, and comment on local EIRs.
    2. Participate on special committees to address specific proposed plans with regional significance (i.e. GP 20/20, North County MHCP, etc.)
    3. Meet regularly with regional and municipal planners to discuss proposed projects.
    4. Participate in a coalition of non-profit organizations to develop and implement a coordinated regional conservation strategy.
    5. Meet regularly with state and federal resource and regulatory agencies to discuss local conservation issues.
  2. Support state, national, and international conservation causes.
    • Communicate BVAS positions to elected officials and regulatory agencies via phone trees, e-mail, and letter writing campaigns.
  3. Educate the membership and general public on conservation issues.
    1. Monthly conservation update in Lagoon Flyer
    2. Conservation message in exhibits at Nature Center
    3. Conservation activities for children at Nature Center
    4. Media releases and letters-to-editor regarding conservation issues
    5. Conservation messages in monthly general meetings and periodic programs
