Re: Support for AB 2838 (Pavley)
Dear Assembly Member Chu :
The 1,200 member households of the Buena Vista Audubon Society in Oceanside , CA , urge you to support Assembly Bill 2838 when it is presented to the Assembly Appropriations Committee in the near future.
Assembly Bill 2838 establishes the Coastal Environment Motor Vehicle Mitigation Program. This important legislation holds the potential to significantly improve the quality of life throughout coastal California by providing long-term funding for the protection and restoration of natural resources and natural systems affected by motor vehicles and their associated infrastructure.
Conservation projects that reduce air and noise pollution, protect water quality, and conserve our natural resources are critical elements to providing balance to California’s mandate to expedite transportation projects and facilities throughout the state.
Further, the Coastal Environment Motor Vehicle Mitigation Program could become a very important funding source for state and local conservation corps which put at-risk youth to work improving our communities through resource improvement projects.
AB 2838 provides a fair and balanced mechanism to provide mitigation for the adverse environmental impacts of the 20 million motor vehicles currently registered in California ’s 20 coastal counties. We strongly support this critical legislation and urge your AYE vote for Assembly Bill 2838.
Sincerely,
Andrew Mauro, Conservation Chair
Buena Vista Audubon Society
